The Silence that visits GC is a living quality, as distinct from the deathly quiet that silences discussion. Cf yesterday’s Diary: silence as absence, the intentional omission of what might be said, even what needs to be spoken… as in cases concerning abuse by those in positions of power and authority; the gagging clauses of Mr. SG Alder’s EG; in current media news, the gagging clauses of NHS whistleblowers; and, in A Christian History, abuses that have been sounded in the media over the past decade.

How astonishing is the juxtaposition between my professional life, the non-industry dispute, and the clarity, straightforwardness and vitality of the Guitar Circle and The Orchestra Of Crafty Guitarists. The OCG is a functioning model that approximates, as much as anything I can conceive, to the Ideal Society. It is one thing to conceive a society of the imagination, which music can make available to willing and open ears. It is quite another to be part of an actual, functioning Ideal Society; or, at least, a miniature approximation and part-time representation of that, one atom of a Society in the process of construction and formation.

Onto the non-industrial dispute, as close to a text-book example of how a process goes off course and ends up heading in the opposite direction to the impulse that gave rise to it.

Home, to World HQ, back to a plasterwork meeting with Steven the Classic Cove Person.

Supper by the back door, a walk down the garden, and down into the Cellar…

A call to Adrian Belewbeloid, catching up on recent news-arisings of Ade’s departure from the Nine Inch Nails’ tour with the Horse’s Mouth.

And a message sent to me on Facebook: I was just sent some agonizing video of you and Toyah - All Star Mr. and Mrs. Egads - why did you have to do this. I do understand the needs of entertainment and indeed vacuous entertainment, but are you short of cash? Let me know. Seriously, it was a bit difficult to watch. I hope you and your wife are well. I have no idea when you did this bit. Someone just sent it to me.

An innocent visitor to this Diary, wondering who and why an acquaintance might send me this, should know: it is from A Person In The Work. A person working, is a qualitatively different creature. I note, with regret, that in the early part of our relationship certain Persons In The Work were repeatedly rude to and dismissive of Toyah. Elizabeth Bennett was not. On a visit to Fernhill House in Witchampton for tea (1985), Elizabeth mentioned that she had listened to a radio interview with Toyah - and thought: this is hope for the future. But, to quote Brother Bob G: Elizabeth is not In The Work; the Work is in Elizabeth.

From the Sistery’s Person Blog: Brother is well known within the music industry for being erudite and very considered in his views. However, from Mr. and Mrs. his sense of play and apparent lack of seriousness is very obvious. The show features celebrity couples competing to win a donation to the charity of their choice.

My own view: Lotsa fun. This is more the Minx’s area than mine, and what of that? I had a great time.
